Insighting…

I may be going to introduce you to a word today, Insighting…

I cannot say anymore that this is a new word, in fact this coming February 20, 2011 marks at least 49 years that I have been using the word insighting!

February 20, 1962 is a day many people remember in history.  Most people remember it as the day John Glenn became the first American to Orbit the Earth!  I remember that too.

It is insighting!

I also remember that I was studying English and learning about “action words”, ugh, “verbs!”  Word like running, jumping, and dancing – “the ‘ing’ action words” my teacher told me about at Madison Elementary School in Torrance, California.

February 20, 1962 was my 8th birthday and you can just imagine how excited I was on my birthday watching history. I remember it well, and I said, “It is insighting!”

That was the very first use of the word insighting I can remember!  Some thought I meant exciting, others wondered if I used the word inciting incorrectly.

I needed a word to describing the actions we do to gain insight.  After all, John Glenn was gaining a lot of insight simply by what he was doing – Orbiting the Earth.  I would venture to say that anyone who Orbits the Earth in our day would gain a great many insights.  I assume that is why the rich are willing to pay $20 million to do it!

So I made the noun insight into a verb insighting and used it on my birthday to describe the actions we do that results in our gaining insight!

2. The things we do to get insight.

Today I realize that one of the things I do that is insighting is text messages.  People send me text messages that are insighting!

Category = Insighting!

So today, Friday October 29, 2010, I have decided to add and launch an Insighting Category as a subcategory to Inspirationally.  In the Insighting Category I will post text I receive that generate a spark of insight in my thought process.
